Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College baseball team rested the majority of its starters, falling 7-0 in the regular-season final to Wabash College on Monday afternoon.
The Yeomen enter the upcoming NCAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed from the NCAC East Division with a record of 22-18 overall and 12-7 in the league play.
Oberlin will be making its third trip to the tournament in program history, having also done so in 2013 and 2015. They will open the four-team double-elimination event on Thursday night against DePauw University who earned the No. 1 seed in the West Division.
Oberlin used 10 pitchers in the game with sophomore transfer Musa Mantiwane getting the starting nod. He worked the front three innings without allowing a run on two hits and two walks.
Jack Reiss took the loss after surrending the game's first run in the top of the fifth.
The Little Giants would add three in the sixth and three in the ninth to cap the the scoring.
Oberlin had just five hits in the game with freshman
Jack Marsjanik leading the way by going 2-for-3.
Parker Goldstein,
Connor MacDowell and
Darren Zaslau had the other three Yeomen hits.
Wabash starter Chris Herrmann went all nine innings as he moved to 6-2 on the year. He struck out eight and walked two on 124 total pitches.
The Little Giants end their season at 22-16 overall.
Oberlin will continue its quest for a second conference crown starting on Thursday.
