Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Short-handed Yeowomen Fall at Allegheny

Meadville, PA – Playing without multiple starters due to a rash of injuries – including points leader Grace Barlow – the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team was upended at Allegheny College, 14-10, on Wednesday afternoon.

However, the Yeowomen still fought till the end, but could not overtake the Gators. The loss snapped Oberlin's three-game winning streak and moved its overall record to 10-6 and conference mark to 4-3. Allegheny moved ahead of the Yeowomen in the NCAC standings at 5-2 and is now 9-7 on the season.

Leading goal scorer Natalie Rauchle cashed in the game's first two goals to stake Oberlin to an early 2-0 lead seven minutes in. Maggie Mullard later made it a 3-1 Yeowomen advantage, but the Gators responded with six unanswered goals. After scoring the final three goals of the first half to go up 4-3 at the break, Allegheny netted the first three tallies of the second stanza to extend the cushion out to 7-3.

At the 24:40 mark Rauchle would deposit her third goal of the game with the help of a Mullard feed to stop the Gators' run and first-year Hayley Drapkin quickly followed with another to get Oberlin back within two.

Allegheny's Gusty Mead sent in a shot after getting setup by McKenzie Bell, but Mullard followed with her second score of the match to keep the Yeowomen within striking distance at 8-6.

Three of the next four tallies went on the Gators side of the ledger as they opened up an 11-7 cushion midway through the final frame with Mullard accounting for the Oberlin goal during the spurt.

Every time Oberlin scored it seemed like the Gators had an answer, as Oberlin was unable to score back-to-back goals in the final 22 minutes of the second half.

With under 13 minutes to play, Mullard would cap her four-goal performance while Drapkin and Marissa Maxfield also found the back of the net, but the Yeowomen could get no closer than four.

Junior Alexa L'Insalata made 12 saves in her 60 minutes of work between the pipes to run her season total to 132.

The Gators finished with a 34-21 margin in shots and had a slight 26-23 edge in ground balls.  Oberlin had a 14-12 advantage on draw controls with Rauchle leading the way with six, while Mullard added four.

The Yeowomen will look to close the season strong on Saturday against The College of Wooster. The team will honor its seniors prior to the 1 p.m. opening draw at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
