OBERLIN, Ohio - Following a crushing overtime loss at Denison, Oberlin College women's lacrosse attempted to rebound against the Wittenberg University Tigers, but the ladies from Springfield outlasted the Yeowomen 12-10.
The Yeowomen fell behind early as the Tigers' Olivia Lash rattled home two consecutive goals before the Oberlin women could find an answer.
That answer came in the form of
Michaela Puterbaugh, who tallied her second score of the year unassisted. Within the next 30 seconds,
Grace Barlow found an equalizer, while
Maggie Mullard snuck in her first of the night to take the scoreline to 3-2 in Oberlin's favor to close the first half.
Out of the intermission, after combining for five goals in the first frame, both squads combined for 17 goals to close the midweek North Coast Athletic Conference bout. Unfortunately, the Tigers roared back with ten second-half scores, while the Yeowomen could only muster seven goals in the final 30 minutes.
Barlow collected a second-half hat trick, while Rauchle caged two, and Mullard and
Suzanna Doak both notched one score to close the game.
Barlow's team-high four-goal performance lifts her campaign total to 34, sitting four behind Rauchle, who leads the Oberlin women with 38.
In the loss, Oberlin keeper
Alexa L'Insalata finished with 12 saves, evaluating her season total over the century mark to 102.
The Oberlin women will return to the Bailey Field turf on Saturday, April 16, as they welcome the Kenyon College Ladies to the Austin E. Knowlton Complex.
The Yeowomen and Ladies will battle at 3 p.m. as the second half of a men's-women's NCAC doubleheader. The Oberlin men take on Wabash College at noon to open the day's festivities and will celebrate Senior Day against the Little Giants in their 2016 home finale.
