Auburn, New York – Behind the strength of
Macabe Camps complete-game performance, the Oberlin College baseball team defeated Old Westbury, 9-3, at Falcon Park in Auburn, New York, to advance on in the NCAA Division III Regional.
Camps was sensational as he sprinkled nine hits and one walk through 133 pitches of work. The sophomore right-hander added four punch outs and 13 ground ball outs as just two of his three runs allowed were earned.
The Yeomen staked him to a large lead before he took the mound as they plated five runs in the top of the first.
Benjamin Whitener extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single to right and
Ryan Bliss followed with an opposite-field run-producing single to left field to score
Andrew Hutson. However, the big hit of the inning came courtesy of
Blaise Dolcemaschio as he delivered a two-out three-run double that got over the head of leftfielder Nick Yip to put the Yeomen out in front 5-0.
The Panthers would answer back with single tallies in the first and second. Jonathan Pagan hit a solo home run over the wall in left, and in the second the Panthers would push one across on an error by Hutson.
The Yeomen responded by scoring two in the fourth before adding one in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fourth,
Justin Cruz came through with an RBI single and later in the inning Dolcemaschio would trot home on a sac fly to left field by
Kyle Decker.
Dolcemaschio, who had four RBIs in the game, plated
Danny Baldocchi on a sac to left in the fifth, and in the sixth Hutson would follow Decker's triple with a single back up the box to cap the scoring for the Yeomen.
The Panthers would push another run across in the home-half of the sixth on wild pitch, but never really threatened the eventual outcome.
Whitener and
Mitch Novak had three hits each to account for six of the Yeomen's 13 hits in the game, while Bliss finished with a pair of his own.
The Yeomen will take on the Keystone College Giants tonight at 7:45 p.m. Fans can follow the game live on goyeo.com/stream.
