Berea, Ky. – In their first action of the 2009, the Oberlin College baseball didn't get the result they were looking for as they fell to Berea College 5-1 and 13-11 on Friday.

Sophomore Phil Brua took the ball from head coach Eric Lahetta in game one in what was just his second career start. The hard-throwing right-hander worked three innings – allowing four hits and five runs (one earned) while fanning four along the way.

A huge Yeomen error in the third extended the inning to allow the Mountaineers to score all five runs in the frame.

Freshman Drew Mixter worked two scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts and fellow rookie Jared Ramirez also pitched a clean sixth.

Oberlin got its lone run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to Jeremy Simon.

In game two, Oberlin (0-2) put themselves in a huge hole as starting pitcher Jack Dunn struggled with control problems – surrendering seven runs in just two-thirds of an inning.

However, the Yeomen didn't go away quietly as they fought back with the bats, but couldn't quite complete the comeback.

Senior #P.J. Carter# spearheaded the attack with a 3-for-4 performance at plate, which included a double, a triple and three runs scored.

Sophomore Ben Kauder also belted his first career home run in the sixth inning as he finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Yeomen will try to bounce back tomorrow, as they take on Davenport in another doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
