Dolcemaschio Stadium at Culhane Field

Home to the Oberlin College softball team, Dolcemaschio Stadium at Culhane Field combines the history of the Yeowomen program with a modern game-day setting. Stadium seating and a press box were added in 2018, giving fans a place to watch the team compete throughout its home schedule.

The facility also reflects the people who helped establish and develop softball at Oberlin, from the field’s original construction to the improvements that shaped the stadium it is today.

Game-Day Seating

Stadium seating gives spectators a place to gather and support the Yeowomen during home games, including Senior Day and the annual Strike Out Cancer game against Kenyon.

Press Box and Scoreboard

The press box supports game-day operations, while a Daktronics scoreboard added through a donation from Steve Shapiro ’83 provides updates throughout the game.

Softball Tradition

Built with support from the John W. Heisman Club, Culhane Field honors Mary J. Culhane, an Oberlin educator and pioneer in women’s athletics who joined the college in 1956.

A Field with History

Softball became a varsity sport at Oberlin in 2000, and the John W. Heisman Club helped fund the field’s construction. The facility was named for Mary J. Culhane, who came to Oberlin in 1956, the year the college first offered physical education as a major.

The field continued to evolve alongside the program. Following a then-best 14-win season in 2012, additional improvements included a new Daktronics scoreboard donated by Steve Shapiro ’83. In 2018, a gift from Dolcemaschio and his wife, Julie, made stadium seating and a press box possible. The stadium was dedicated before a doubleheader against Denison.

Today, Dolcemaschio Stadium at Culhane Field hosts the Yeowomen’s home schedule. Games are open to the public and streamed on the Oberlin Sports Network.
