Junior Monique Newton was named National Field Athlete of the Week, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday morning.
 
Newton, who also earned her second straight North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honor, turned in a record-breaking performance at the Kent State Golden Gala over the weekend.
 
On her final attempt in the women's shot put, Newton unleashed a throw of 49-09.25 to break her own school record in the event. Furthermore, the mark is currently tops in the nation, and is the farthest in Division III over the last three seasons in addition to being ninth-best all-time.
