Senior Kirby Livingston led the Yeomen defense with an impressive performance in the team's, 19-2, season-opening win over Case Western Reserve. The defensive lineman had five tackles and forced a fumble on a strip-sack of Case QB Billy Beecher. He and has Yeomen defensive mates also limited the Spartans to just 16 yards rushing in the game. The victory was the first for Oberlin against Case Western since 1982 and snapped a 28-game skid against them.
