Oberlin, Ohio - Oberlin College Interim Delta Lodge Director of Athletics and Physical Education
Natalie Winkelfoos has announced that Head Women's Soccer Coach Kristen Hayden is stepping down to pursue other career opportunities.
Hayden had served as the head coach of the Yeowomen since 2007 after working as an assistant coach with the team in 2006.
During her tenure, Hayden mentored numerous All-NCAC performers - including five in 2009 - which marked the highest total of all-conference selections since 1998. Former Oberlin goalie and 2009 graduate Sarah Grabinski, also earned All-Ohio honors under Hayden's tutelage. This past season three Yeowomen earned all-conference honors.
Furthermore, her teams were honored annually by the National Soccer Coaches of America (NSCAA) for academic excellence.
“I want to thank Oberlin for the opportunity to coach at such an elite institution,” Hayden said. “The past seven years with the program have been an honor, and being here has made me a better coach and a better person.”
Hayden departs a team that is slated to return 15 letterwinners from this past season, headlined by sophomores
Kate Hanick and
Kate Frost. Hanick led the team in goals this past season, while Frost led the NCAC in saves as a rookie in 2011.
“On behalf of our entire department of athletics and student-athletes, I would like to thank Coach Hayden for her years of service to Oberlin College,” Winkelfoos said.” She was an excellent member of our staff – a truly wonderful woman – and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors."
Assistant Coach
Mike Cracas will transition into the role of Acting-Head Coach. Cracas has been on staff with the program since 2009 and has over a decade of coaching experience.
A national search for Hayden's successor will begin immediately.
