Final Results vs. Allegheny College - NCAC Consolation Match
Gambier, Ohio – The Yeowomen and Allegheny College met again this morning just one week after their regular season match-up in today's NCAC Women's Tennis Championships' Consolation Match; Oberlin produced the same result, a win. For the third consecutive season the Oberlin College women's tennis team finished the season with a third place performance in the tournament.
The Consolation doubles matches between the Yeowomen and the Gators reflected the regular season meeting between these two squads. Allegheny used wins at second and third doubles to take a 2-1 win into singles play.
Again the top doubles match with
Ariel Lewis and
Finley Gates facing off against Lauren Kristofco and Sara Longo produced a tight score line. The Oberlin duo needed a tiebreak to beat the Gators a week ago; however, today they needed just one extra game earning the Yeowomen's lone doubles win, 9-7.
Julie Christensen and
Rebecca Brown pushed Allegheny's second pair but failed to close the gap falling 8-6.
“It feels great to finish the year this way. We played good tennis during singles, everyone was ready, we played solid matches and no Allegheny opponent took more than three games in any set as our girls were ready to win,” exclaimed Head Coach
Constantine Ananiadis.
In stunning fashion the singles line-up cruised to four quick wins from the top of the line-up providing Oberlin with the decision. Lewis, OC's top hitter, secured her second straight season with twenty or more wins (21-7) by defeating Kristofco, 6-0, 6-2. A season ago as a first-year Lewis qualified for the NCAA tournament as an individual and it is quite possible that she will make a return trip in her sophomore campaign.
Gates, who needed a third set to defeat Longo in the regular season match used two strong sets to grab a 6-1, 6-0 win to finish the year 9-10.
First-year
Preeya Shah got by the Gator's Elyse Schmitt 6-3 in the first set and then blanked her in the second 6-0 at third singles.
Allegheny's Janna Dickerson proved to be a formidable foe in her previous meeting with
Carolyn Ball pushing the match to a third set tiebreak. This morning, however, would be different at Ball used identical 6-1 sets to defeat Dickerson.
The future looks bright for Oberlin (13-10) who will graduate no one from this year's roster and produced a fine season with first-years and sophomores comprising the line-up all year.
