Final Results
Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team concluded their Great Lakes College Association Tournament play this morning with a match against Hope College. Oberlin finished the weekend 2-1 after dropping today's match to the Flying Dutchmen.
Hope would earn all three doubles wins. The Dutchmen, who have been excellent through the GLCA's in doubles play, only lost one (1) doubles match on the weekend.
“Hope is a good team and they really set the tone for the match through their doubles play, they get after you, capitalize on mistakes and don't give you much hope,” head coach
Constantine Ananiadis said following today's action.
Ariel Lewis continues her strong play in as the Yeowomen's top hitter. Today she improved to 16-5 on the year and is currently riding a nine (9) match-winning streak. Lewis would easily defeat Hope's Alyssa Austin in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Oberlin's
Carolyn Ball and Hope's Daniell Werley battled it out in the No. 3 position. Ball earned a 7-6 (7-4) win in the first set before Werley grabbed the second 6-4 and then proceeded to out hit Ball in the super tiebreaker, winning 10-6.
“I am pleased with the weekend's results, we played well at times, we hung around and gutted out some wins. To finish 2-1 over the course of two days against quality opponents is good,” commented Ananiadis.
Oberlin (9-7, 1-0 NCAC) concludes their regular season action with four matches against North Coast Athletic Conference schools. The Yeowomen are back in action April 16th when they travel to Granville, Ohio to face Denison University.
