Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team could not have ordered better weather for this weekend's matches. The Yeowomen, hosting six visiting Great Lakes College Association institutions, notched two wins today defeating Albion College and The College of Wooster.

In doubles action Oberlin would take two of three matches. The Yeowomen earned close wins in both the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. OC's top pairing of Ariel Lewis and Finley Gates avenged a loss from a season ago to Albion's Anna Gunderson and Shelley Zalmer. The Yeowomen duo dug themselves into a 6-2 hole but reeled off six (6) straight games to earn the 8-6 victory.

Preeya Shah and Brie White-Dzuro took down Cassie Simmelink and Sarah Towler (8-5) to get back to their winning ways.

The Yeowomen and Britons traded matches during singles play. Gates' win in the No. 4 slot clinched the match for Oberlin. After a disappointing first set 6-1 loss, Gates bounced back with 6-2, 6-3 wins in the second and third sets.

“These were good team wins for us and for the program. We beat a good team in Albion today and are making the strides necessary to compete and beat teams of their caliber,” commented Ananiadis.

Lewis continues to dominate as the Yeowomen's top hitter, she earned her seventh (7) straight win downing Shelly Zamler 6-2, 6-2.

Oberlin and The College of Wooster squared off in the afternoon match, which saw OC improve to 9-6 and 1-0 in the NCAC.

Carolyn Ball and Liz Saltzman partnered, for the first time this season, in the No. 3 doubles position to take down the Scots' Erin Bauer and Suzanne Hamby (8-2) to put Oberlin out in front. OC earned a win at No. 1 double to lead 2-1 heading into singles play.

Oberlin jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 5. Saltzman dispatched Kelsey Jenkins 6-0, 6-2 and Lewis stretched her win streak to eight matches defeating Wooster's No. 1 Elissa Lauber after she had to retire from the match.

“At this point in the match I wasn't sure where we were going to pick up the fifth point. The matches left on the court were back and forth and anyone could have won them. Preeya battled back from a tough first set to win in the super tiebreaker and Emily hung in there to also win in the tiebreak,” noted Ananiadis following the match.

Shah turned the tables on Ashley Stockwell to even the match with her 6-3 second set win before racing to a 10-6 super tiebreak win. Emily Thebaut, up a set dropped the second to Bauer before finishing her off with a 10-5 super tiebreak win.
