Granville, Ohio – On a blustery morning the Oberlin College women's tennis team jumped out to a 2-1 lead through doubles play and finished the non-divisional match with Ohio Wesleyan University winning four of six singles matches to earn the 6-3 victory.

Scheduling conflicts forced the match outdoors where both teams had to endure cold and windy court conditions. “We played well despite the conditions today. We were in total control of the six matches that we won and probably could have taken the other three had it not been for some hitting errors and a couple big shots from OWU players,” noted head coach Constantine Ananiadis.

The Yeowomen achieved their 2-1 lead following doubles action with crushing defeats of the Battling Bishops' top two pairings.

Ariel Lewis and Finley Gates cruised to an 8-0 win over Pam Quigney and Erin Cohn earning their 12th win of the season together in the top spot.

Hitting in the second doubles position Preeya Shah and Brie White-Dzuro took down OWU's Becky Simon and Emily Kiourtsis (8-1) improving to 5-3 as a partnership this spring.

Oberlin narrowly missed sweeping doubles play. Rebecca Brown and partner Julie Christensen faced off against Mollie Campbell and Mackenzie Conway in the third spot. The two duos had the match tied at six (6) games apiece before the Bishop pairing got a bounce off the net taking the seventh and then eighth games preventing the OC sweep.

With today's win, the women's tennis team has recorded double-digit wins in seven of the last nine seasons, Oberlin currently stands 10-8 on the year.

Singles action saw fine displays from Lewis (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 1 spot, Gates and Shah kept the wins coming each earning straight set victories in the second and third singles positions respectively.

Emily Thebaut defeated Conway in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) evening her season record in the sixth position at 4-4 and picking up her sixth dual win of the season.

In the No. 4 and No. 5 slots Oberlin got good efforts from Brown and Christensen but each came up just short. Brown evened her match at a set apiece before falling 10-5 in the super tiebreaker and Christensen pushed hard in the second set nearly forcing a tiebreaker but fell to Campbell 6-3, 7-5.

The Yeowomen will take a week off from competition before they head to Meadville, Pa. for an NCAC clash with Allegheny College scheduled for Saturday, April 24th.
