SEASON OUTLOOK
The Oberlin College men’s golf team welcomes back five key players from a squad that was competitive at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship last season.
With an experienced group returning to the links, head coach Blake New believes his team has what it takes to move up the ranks in the league. Junior Matt Aucunas is the team’s top performer as he led the Yeomen with a 34th-place finish at the conference meet last season, carding in a three-round score of 257 on the par-71, 6,559 yard Granville Golf Course. Senior D.J. Maynard also has significant experience on the championship level that will be very valuable this spring.
Football stars Austin Richards and Ron Rupard transition to the course in spring to help the Yeomen. Both have powerful drives, but look to improve on their consistency. Sophomore Patrick Williams has worked hard throughout the summer to improve his swing for this season.
In the fall Oberlin hosted the first event of the newly-formed NCAC Championship Series at the Oberlin Golf Club. The 18-hole course covers 6,800 yards and was designed by renowned golf architect Harold Paddock, Sr.
The spring season gets underway the third week of March as the team embarks on its annual training trip to North Carolina. The Yeomen return to play in four invitational meets as part of the NCAC Championship Series with the final event taking place in Allegheny, the first weekend in May.
