Kalamazoo, Mich. - Oberlin senior
Farah Leclercq battled in the first round of the NCAA Individual Championships, but saw her season come to an end as the nation's seventh-ranked player came back to win the first set and went on to take the second, as well.
"This was a great tennis match by two very evenly matched players," head coach
Constantine Ananiadis said about Thursday morning's first-round contest. "The quality of tennis was really high, and especially the first set could have gone either way."
Leclercq started the match up 3-0 over Lindsay Raulston, the No. 7 seed from the University of Mary Washington. However Leclercq was unable to hold onto the lead, as the first set ended in favor of Raulston by the score of 7-6 after the tiebreak.
Raulton continued her strong play as she went on to take the second set, 6-1, ending the match.
"Farah had a fantastic season and should be proud of all she accomplished this year," Ananiadis said. "She will certainly be missed next season."
Leclercq finishes her impressive senior year with a 21-8 record in singles play, and went into the NCAA Individual Championships ranked fourth in the ITA Central Region. For her play this season, the native of Ocala, Fla., was named the NCAC Player of the Year and the ITA Central Region Senior of the Year.
