Delaware, Ohio – The Oberlin Women's Track & Field team ran past most of the competition this weekend as they tallied 146.5 points at the 2010 NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, en route to a second consecutive second place finish.

Senior standout Clara Shaw was named Outstanding Female Distance Runner of the Year as she completed a double win in the 800-meter and the 1500-meter runs. Shaw completed the 800-meter race in record breaking time, setting a new NCAC Championship mark in 2:14.87. That time is also an NCAA provisional qualifying time for the senior.

Sophomore Ryann McChesney took home top honors in the grueling 400-meter hurdles. McChesney bested the competition and stopped the clock in 1:07.63.

Also taking an individual conference championship was first-year Marissa Clardy who outran the field in the 400-meter dash, winning with a time of 57.66 seconds.

Clardy joined up with senior Madeline Schultz and juniors Amanda Miller and Laura Vernon to win the 4x400-meter relay in 3:57.74. Combined with Shultz's victory in the Heptathlon last weekend the Oberlin women took first place in six of the twenty-one team events.

Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said, “This has been a fun and challenging year for us. It's great to see the work these women have put in translate into tremendous results at this time of year. There is no doubt that we are going to miss this talented senior class, but the core of young women we have returning is as deep as I have had in my time at Oberlin.”

The Yeowomen scored at least one point in every running event, and at least three points in every track event other than the 100-meter dash. Other senior scorers for Oberlin included: Cordelia Revells 2nd in the 5000m run and 5th in the 1500m run; Fran Holoman, 5th in the High Jump; Schultz, 6th in the High Jump and 8th in the Long Jump; and Tammela Platt 5th in the 400m Hurdles.

While the season is a wrap for a few of Oberlin's athletes, many will continue training over the next few weeks in hopes of improving their season-best performances at the Allegheny Invite on May 14th.
