Granville, Ohio – It was an outstanding effort for both the Oberlin College men's and women's track and field teams on Friday evening at the Denison University Last Chance Meet as both squads recorded multiple wins and top times.

“It was a great tune-up for the conference meet next weekend,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “I was glad to see everyone perform well and show they are prepared for conference championships.”

Thomas Shaw and his sister Clara Shaw each won the 800 meters with Thomas checking in at 2:02.32 while Clara finished with a mark of 2:16.95. In fact the Yeowomen claimed the top three spots in the event as first-year standouts Hannah Combe (2:21.95) and Marissa Clardy (2:22.27) finished second and third, respectively.

Other Yeowomen highlights included Cordelia Revells winning the 3,000 meters in 10:41.69 and Laura Vernon touching the tape first in the 400 meters at 1:02.53. Vernon also cleared 10 feet in the pole vault in to place second overall.

Lorain, Ohio, native Shawn Chrapczynski was victorious in the 55 meters with a time of 6.73. Solomon Turner, who like Chrapczynski is also a member of the Oberlin football team, won the 200 meters in 22.99.

Sophomore Stephen Williams added a win in the mile by completing the course in 4:31.44, and freshman Alex Guo covered a season-best 43-05 in the triple jump to take the top spot.

Madeline Schultz, Ryann McChesney and Josh Gallagher will be competing in tomorrow's NCAC Multi-Event Championships at Oberlin. The other members of the team will rest up for the conference meet which is slated to start next Friday.
