Oberlin Runs Well at Greater Cleveland Championships

Berea, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field teams turned in many strong performances on Friday night at the Greater Cleveland Championships on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College.

“This was our best overall meet of the season,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We needed a meet like this to help build our confidence with the conference meet quickly approaching.”

Junior Solomon Turner touched the tape first in the 400 meters with a time of 51.35. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.01.

First-year Alexander Guo added his second triple jump victory of the season by clearing 40-11.

Sophomore Ben Schild posted a timestamp of 8:52.71 to win the 3000-meter run, while teammate Stephen Williams finished in second at 8:55.34.

As a team the Yeomen placed fourth in the six-team field with 74.5 points. The host Yellow Jackets won the event with 171 points.

For the Yeowomen, Amanda Miller was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.72.

The Oberlin foursome of Madeline Schultz, Laura Vernon, Miller and Marissa Clardy won the 4x400 meter relay in 4:06.49. The same clique also finished second in the 4x200 at 1:48.38.

Senior Cordelia Revells completed the mile in 5:22.39 and first-year Hannah Combe flew through the 1000-meter run in 3:07.69 - adding two second-place finishes for the Yeowomen.

Oberlin scored 119 points to finish third overall. Case Western Reserve won the event with 161.5 points.

Oberlin returns to action tomorrow afternoon at Kent State University.
