B-W Mid-February Results
Oberlin, Ohio – Members of the Oberlin College track and field teams were competing at three different venues on Friday night and strong marks were recorded at each location.
Competing at the Boston University Valentine Invitational senior
Clara Shaw set a new school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.42. The mark was over two seconds faster Flannery Cerbin's timestamp of 2:18.46 that she posted in 2006. Shaw also finished third in her heat with a lifetime-best run of 5:05.38 in the mile.
Also competing at the Valentine Invitational was junior
Joanna Johnson who finished second in her heat in the 5K with a new school record and NCAA provisional qualify time of 17:17.91.
Senior
Madeline Schultz, who set the school record in the pentathlon last year at the Akron Invitational with 2,984 points, came up a little shy of that number this year but still recorded 2,936 points to finish 11th overall in a 19-person field that consisted of nearly all Division I members.
At the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-February Invite, first-year
Erica Long placed third in the 800 meters by touching the tape in in 2:29.05. Classmate
Sharon Cross ended in sixth place in the 400 meters at 1:04.26.
First-year
Sara Terashima finished fourth in the mile with a time of 5:33.74 and claimed seventh place in the women's 1,000 at 3:17.13.
Senior
Fran Holoman cleared 4-09.75, finishing fourth in the high jump.
On the men's side, sophomore
Thomas Shaw registered a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters by completing the course in 2:01.29.
Second-year standout
Stephen Williams placed sixth in the mile (4:31.57) and ninth in the 1,000 (2:43.61).
Derek Lange, another sophomore harrier for the Yeomen, took fifth place in the 3,000 meters in 9:11.78.
Oberlin has a quick turnaround as most of the team will be competing at the All-Ohio Championships tomorrow on the campus of Otterbein College. Johnson and Shaw will be running in Boston.
