Granville, Ohio – The Oberlin College track and field teams recorded multiple wins and set a new school at the NCAC Relay Meet on Saturday.
“It was good to get out there and compete against conference competition,” Head Coach
Ray Appenheimer said. “It was a nice test to see where we are right now in the early part of the season.”
Highlighting the day for Oberlin was its recording-setting performance in the 4x400 meter relay. The clique of
Clara Shaw,
Madeline Schultz,
Marissa Clardy and
Amanda Miller completed the course in a new school-record and meet-record time of 4:06.22.
As a team, the Yeowomen placed second with 69 points. Ohio Wesleyan won the event with 107 points.
Schultz, Miller and Clardy were joined by first-year
Amanda Gracia in the 1,600 sprint medley relay and took the top spot in 4:26.74.
Shaw,
Marissa Kennedy,
Sharon Cross and
Hannah Combe completed the 4x800 meter relay in 10:09 to earn the win and 10 points for the Yeowomen.
The men's team finished fourth overall with 46 points. The OWU men's team won the event with 104 points.
The Yeomen claimed victory in the 1,600 sprint medley relay as the foursome of
Seth Wimberly,
Solomon Turner,
Shawn Chrapczynski and
Ben Schild flew through the course in 3:40.32.
Schild also finished second in the 5,000 meters with a mark of 15:29.27.
The 4x400 meter relay unit of Turner,
Thomas Shaw, Chrapczynski and Wimberly earned eight points by placing second overall with a timestamp of 3:25.83.
Oberlin returns to action on Friday evening as it plays host to its second invite of the season. The meet is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
