Men's Results l Women's Results

Delaware, Ohio – The Oberlin College Yeowomen had seven runners finish in the top 10, including another victory for junior sensation Joanna Johnson at the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) Meet on Saturday afternoon. The Yeomen were just as impressive with five runners in the top nine to win the event.

“This was just a great way to truly get our season underway,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We competed outstanding against a very good field, and I couldn't be happier with the way both teams performed.”

Johnson, coming off an All-American season a year ago and competing in her first meet in 2009, breezed through the 78-runner field in 17:48.8. Rookie teammate Sara Terashima completed the course in 19:12.2 to place third and Cordelia Revells checked in fourth at 19:24.2.

Senior Clara Shaw completed the 5k course in 19:33.7 – good for sixth place overall. Sophomore Christine Moore (19:36.5) and first-year Kristina Witcher (19:43.2) rounded out the top seven finishers for the Yeowomen as they placed eighth and ninth, respectively.

The Yeowomen finished with just 22 points – 39 points ahead of second-place Denison, who totaled 61 points.

The Yeomen were just as dominate as the Yeowomen with freshman Eric Line pacing the pack in the 8k run with a time of 26:07 to finish second overall. Sophomore teammates Stephen Williams (26:16.3) and Ben Schild (26:18.9) were right on his tail to place third and fourth, respectively.

Junior Justin Warner also turned in a strong run with a mark of 26:30.7 to finish sixth, while second-year harrier David Cogswell placed ninth after completing the course in 26:43.5.

The Yeomen posted just 24 points for the win. Ohio Wesleyan checked in second with 61 points.

Oberlin returns to action in two weeks on September 26 at Williams College.
