Box Score
Delaware, Ohio – Senior
Dan Jaffe couldn't have a picked a better time to score his first goal of the season as his redirect into net in double overtime lifted the Oberlin College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Rose-Hulman on Saturday evening at the Adidas Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
Less than three minutes remained in the second overtime and it appeared as if Oberlin was going to earn its second draw of the weekend, but sophomore
Drew Williamson set a service into the box that Jaffe alertly redirected towards the left post for the OC game-winner.
“I was so glad we were able to get this win tonight because we fought hard and I really felt we deserved it,” Head Coach
Blake New said.
The Yeomen, who triggered 13 shots in the game, were led by junior
Joshua Brancazio as he fired off four on night. The Engineers took just nine shots, but matched Oberlin with five on goal.
Junior
Zach Lipshultz, who has now played 397:37 in goal this season, made five saves to lower his goals against average to an impressive 0.23 to go along with 17 saves thus far. The Pinecrest, Florida, native has allowed just one goal to sneak past him through the first four games this season.
The Engineers had a slight 3-2 edge on corners, but got whistled 21 times for fouls compared to just 12 for the Yeomen.
Oberlin returns to action on Wednesday night when they make the short trek Berea, Ohio to battle the Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jackets. The opening touch is set for 7 p.m.
