Johnson, Gemma & Ouellet Named to Academic All-District Second-Team

Oberlin, Ohio –
Oberlin College female athletes Joanna Johnson, Ali Gemma and Nicky Ouellet were named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second-Team, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon.

To be eligible for the award, one must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 while also being a major contributor during competition.

“All three of these athletes are outstanding people and I am so proud of all of their achievements both athletically and academically,” director of track and field and cross country Ray Appenheimer said.

The trio played a large roll in helping Oberlin claim its first NCAC Indoor Championship in school history.

Ouellet, who is recent recipient of the prestigious Fullbright scholarship, was the NCAC Indoor Middle Distance/Distance Runner of the Year and competed at the NCAA Championships in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track.

Johnson, who just completed her sophomore season, earned NCAA All-America honors in cross country and in the 10,000 meters outdoors. She was the NCAC and Great Lakes Region Cross Country Runner of the Year, going undefeated in every meet leading up to nationals.

Gemma is a four-time All-NCAC selection and two-time conference champion. She recently received the athletics Goldring Award for having the highest cumulative GPA of any member of the graduating athletics class.
