Schultz Wins Heptathlon; Taljan Second in Decathlon

Oberlin, Ohio –
Junior Madeline Schultz registered 4,386 points, just two points shy of a school record to win the heptathlon, while senior Kyle Taljan broke his own school record with 6,043 points to finish second in the decathlon.

Schultz won the javelin (94-04), 800 meters (2:18.85) and tied for first in the high jump (4-11.50). The Concord, Massachusetts, native finished no worse than second in any other event.

Taljan claimed the top spot in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 11.18. The North Ridgeville, Ohio, product also finished second in the shot put (36-09), 400-meter dash (52.21) and pole vault (12-11).

For the second year in a row, Andrew Bloom of Ohio Wesleyan won the decathlon, totaling 6,270 points in this year's event.

The Oberlin College track and field teams return to action next weekend at the NCAC Championships at Ohio Wesleyan.
