Savannah, Ga. - Jesse Kane scored 20 seconds into the third overtime to lift the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team to their first win of the season and a 11-10 defeat of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Nick Thypin-Bermeo led the Yeomen attack with three goals, while
Rob Bond and
Dylan Holmes added two goals apiece.
“We played well today and I was glad we were able to get out of here with the win,” head coach Kevin Walz said. “SCAD is one of the top teams in the NAIA, but our guys stepped it up today, especially
Ted Pallis, who played very strong at his long pole middie spot.”
After a slow start the Yeomen (1-3) took control and built a 6-2 edge, but the Bees tallied two goals just before the break to trail by two, 6-4, at the half.
After a tightly-contested second half, SCAD would force the extra sessions as Justin Sicard scored his second goal of the period with 1:30 remaining in regulation.
Rookie net-minder
Glen Gerbush tallied nine saves in the first half, while fellow first-year
Jon Weisburst took over after the break and rejected nine shots of his own.
Oberlin will conclude its spring break on Sunday afternoon when it locks horns with Guilford College.
