Final Results

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's tennis team avenged a loss from a year ago as they defeated Tiffin University (8-1) tonight in John W. Heisman Field House. This marks the second time this season that the Yeowomen have beaten an opponent who won during the 2008 season.

The Yeowomen were able to jump out on the Dragons early. Winning easily in two of three doubles matches.

Seniors, Jane Hayden and Sarah Teitelbaum, were the highlight of doubles action as they scored a convincing win in the No. 3 slot. They made quick work of the Dragons', Erika Bailey and Jessica Pivato defeating them, 8-0.

First-years, Ariel Lewis and Finely Gates, continue to pair well at No. 2 doubles. They found themselves in a close match early but were able to turn the corner and pull away to an 8-4 win.

Kelly Sipp and Olivia Hayden, Oberlin's top duo played aggressive to the final point but came up a bit short falling (8-6) to Tiffin's Taylor Cooper and Jessica Stefano.

Head coach Constantine Ananiadis commented following the match, “It's a good sign that our team is turning last season's losses into wins. I was pleased with the intensity and focus that the girls showed.”

OC carried momentum into singles play and were able to defeat Tiffin at all six spot. No player surrendered more than four games in any set as all six Yeowomen won in straight sets.

Lewis, the 18th ranked singles player in the Central region, is on a ten match win streak as Oberlin's No.1. Tonight she defeated Long 6-1, 6-2.

In her familiar No. 3 spot Sipp snapped a two match skid with a win over Stefano, 6-3, 6-2. Sipp's doubles partner O. Hayden had little trouble against the Dragons' Cooper winning, 6-2, 6-0.

The Yeowomen's other winners were Nattie Chan, Gates and J. Hayden, a late addition to the line up. She won 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot.

“Tonight we had no lapses in concentration and played a good match heading into the tough competition that we will see in Hilton Head,” said Ananiadis.

The Yeowomen now travel to Hilton Head, S. C. where they will play four matches in four days. They begin the spring break trip vs. DePauw University, Monday, March 23 at 4:30 p.m..
