Winchester, Va. –
Senior Jesse Kane scored with eight seconds left to send the game into overtime, but Shenandoah found the cage first in the extra session to escape with a 9-8 win over the Yeomen on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeomen scored three unanswered goals over the final 5:23 to force the extra session with Kane and Alex Jacobs doing the scoring. However, the Hornets' PJ Cooper scored his lone goal of the game with 1:59 left in overtime to give his team the win.

Jacobs led the OC attack with five goals on 10 shots, while Kane scooped-up a game-high 11 ground balls and won 8-of-13 face offs to go along with two goals and three assists.

“This was a great effort today by our team,” head coach Kevin Walz said. “Sure it is disappointing we couldn't come away with the win, but I am proud of the way we played as a team.”

Oberlin (0-2) jumped out to an early lead, finding the back of cage three times in the first three minutes of play. Rob Bond sandwiched his first goal of the season in between a pair of Jacobs' goals, with the last one coming on a man-up opportunity.

The Yeomen increased their lead to 4-2 in the second quarter, but Shenandoah battled back to tie the game at four at the half.

The Hornets (3-1) netted the first two goals of the third quarter, but Jacobs took an assist from Kane to notch his fourth goal of the game to get the Yeomen within one, 6-5, heading into the fourth.

Oberlin out-shot Shenandoah 39-33 and won 12-of-20 face offs. The Yeomen also were successful on 17-of-23 clear attempts.

The Yeomen will begin their annual spring break with showdown at Sewanee next Saturday.
