Box Score

Fredericksburg, Va. –
No. 6 University of Mary Washington handed the Oberlin College women's tennis team an 8-1 setback on Saturday afternoon.

The Yewomen's lone victory came in the No. 1 singles slot where first-year Ariel Lewis upended Kate Malpeli 7-5, 6-4 in a hard-fought match-up.

“We got to go up against some good competition today and play a team that we wouldn't normally get to see,” head coach Constantine Ananiadis said. “All in all this was a good trip for us - getting a win yesterday and traveling a long way to compete helps build mental toughness.”

In the other singles duels UMW showed why they are highly ranked by defeating the Yeowomen cleanly.

The No. 8 ranked doubles pairing in the Atlantic South Region, Courtney Goimarac and Katie Schafer topped Kelly Sipp and Olivia Hayden by an 8-2 score.

Oberlin will look to bounce back on Wednesday when it hosts Division II foe Ashland University at 6:30 p.m.
