Wooster, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's swimming team set two school records to highlight day one at the Wooster Invitational.
“I was very happy with the way we swam today,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “It was a good start to the weekend and hopefully we can build from this tomorrow.”
Rookie sensation
Grace Aheron established a new Oberlin record in the 200-yard IM with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:09.04 in the 200-yard IM.
The foursome of
Shannon Gallagher,
Danica Watson,
Flora Samis and
Sara Kadi completed the 200-yard free relay in 1:40.69 for a new OC all-time best mark and a fourth-place finish.
Samis also recorded the fourth-best time in school history in the 50-yard free, stopping the clock at 25.31 to place 17th overall.
In the 500-yard free,
Laura Fries and
Jenny Meltz each turned in season-best times. Fries checked in 13th overall with a mark of 5:22.08, while Meltz was close behind at 5:22.42 to finish 17th.
After 10 events, the Yeowomen rest in sixth place in the 10-team field with 225 points.
On the men's end,
Dimitri Macris and
Jon Vimr each had strong efforts in the 500-yard free. Macris qualified seventh during prelims by completing the course in 4:54.16, while Vimr finished 10th in the finals with a time of 4:55.08.
The Yeomen currently sit in eighth place with 188 points.
Tomorrow's prelims will get underway at 10 a.m. with the finals slated to start at 6 p.m.
