Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College swimming and diving team hosted Wittenberg and Baldwin-Wallace in a double-dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Robert Carr Pool. The Yeowomen beat both foes, while the Yeomen knocked off Baldwin-Wallace.
The women beat the Tigers 77-63 and the Yellow Jackets 114-25. The men fell to Wittenberg 83-52, but upended Baldwin-Wallace 93-45.
“This was a great meet for our team and I felt we responded well after yesterday,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “It was exciting to see the support of the College and it really pumped up the swimmers.”
In the first individual event of the meet, freshman
Danica Watson took the top spot in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 11:20.69. Teammate
Jenny Meltz followed in second at 11:22.43. Watson later returned to win the 500-yard free in 5:30.50.
Sara Kadi continued her success by winning the 200-yard free in 2:01.34 and 100-yard free in 55.28. She also finished second behind teammate
Grace Aheron in the 200-yard IM, stopping the clock in 2:15.58. Aheron won the race in 2:14.03. Aheron, the rookie sensation from Roanoke, Virginia, also won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.11 and 100-yard fly in 59.41.
For the second straight day
Laura Fries claimed both backstroke events – winning the 100 in 1:02.10 and 200 in 2:13.10.
The Yeomen also had one of their best efforts of the season as sophomore
Nick Lashway won the 100-yard back in 54.77, the 100-yard butterfly in 54.03 and 200-yard IM in 2:03.58.
Jebran Haddad added a win in the 100-yard breaststroke, tapping in at 1:03.17. Classmate
Chris Canning (22.11) and freshman
James Foust (22.55) also took the top two spots in the 50-yard free.
Oberlin returns to action December 3-5 at the Wooster Invitational.
