Cleveland, Ohio –
First-year Grace Aheron set a new school record in the 400-yard IM, but the College of Wooster Fighting Scots women's swimming and diving team outlasted the Oberlin College Yeowomen 108-97, and the Yeomen fell 134-68 on day one of the Veale Classic at Case Western Reserve University.

“We did a lot of things well and had many strong swims,” Head Coach Mark Fino said. “We had to have the perfect meet to get this win and we came darn close. It was a good effort by both the men's and women's team so now we need to rest up and be ready to go again tomorrow morning.”

Aheron highlighted the evening as her winning mark 4:40.40 in the 400-yard IM bested that of teammate Sara Kadi, who previously held the record at 4:40.66. Aheron also claimed the top spot in the 1,650-yard free, stopping the clock at 18:20.47, which is fourth best all-time. In addition, the Roanoke, Virginia, native ended second in the 500-yard free at 5:20.30.

Kadi had a fine meet herself as she was a part of three wins, including the 200-yard free (1.58.56) and 100-yard free (54.68.). Kadi also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200-free relay team that missed a school record by just two one-hundredths of a second with a time of 1:41.94. She was followed by Flora Samis, Danica Watson and Shannon Gallagher.

Senior Laura Fries also recorded a Yeowomen victory in the 100-yard back by touching in at 1:00.62

On the men's side, first-year James Foust displayed his sprinting abilities by winning the 100-yard free in 55 seconds flat. He also placed third in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:54.02, behind teammate Jon Vimr who was in a close second at 1:50.93 – four tenths of a second back of the winner.

Sophomore Chris Canning was victorious in the 50-yard free, going down-and-back in just 22.70. He also placed third in the 100-yard free at 57 seconds flat. Classmate Nick Lashway added a win in the 100-yard back with a mark of 55.03 and placed second the 1,650-yard free by completing the course in 18:23.16.

Dimitri Macris and Mike Sabatka finished second and third respectively in the 400-yard IM with times of 4:37.31 and 4:41.88.

Oberlin returns to the pool at Case Western tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. to take on the loser of the John Carroll vs. Case dual meet that is happening this evening.
