Delaware, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's and women's cross country teams proved that they are each among the state's best teams at the All-Ohio Championship meet on Friday afternoon.
“This was a great day all the way around,” Head Coach
Ray Appenheimer said. “We had many great performances on both sides, but this men's team of ours is really coming together and I expect them to finish strong.”
The Yeowomen placed second amongst Division III three schools with 94 points, just 24 points back of the nations 13th-ranked team Case Western Reserve. Junior
Joanna Johnson remained perfect against Division III foes by completing the course in 18:27.9. The Chico, California, native actually placed third overall in the entire race which consisted of Division I, II and III members from across the Buckeye State.
Cordelia Revells also continued her strong senior season, finishing 1:20 back of Johnson at 19:47.5 – earning her 10th overall.
After the experience at the top of the Oberlin, its been first-years
Sara Terashima and
Kristina Witcher who have been consistent, allowing the Yeowomen to have high team finishes. Terashima ended 17th with a mark of 20:08.5, while Witcher checked in 27th at 20:38.7.
Julia Beebe rounded out Oberlin's placers in 39th with a time of 21:07.7.
All in all the Yeowomen placed 10th as a team in the 42-team field consisting of schools in three divisions and the NAIA.
The Yeomen had many impressive runs to earn its first trophy at the All-Ohio meet by placing third overall with 124 points.
Sophomore
David Cogswell and freshman
Eric Line paced the Oberlin harriers by placing 15th and 16th, respectively. Cogswell stopped the clock at 28:01.8, while Line followed in at 28:08.3.
A trio Yeomen sophomores completed the OC scoring pack with
Ben Schild (28:13.9) finishing 20th,
Stephen Williams (28:29.9) ending 30th and
Derek Lange (28:47.7) placing 43rd.
Ohio Northern won the men's race with 65 points, edging Heidelberg by just one point.
Oberlin returns to the trek on October 17th when it plays hosts to the second-annual Inter-Regional Rumble.
