Yeowomen Rock at the Rumble

The Oberlin College women's cross country team had a great performance by finishing third at its own Inter-Regional Rumble Meet on Saturday afternoon.

“The women ran great,” Head Coach Ray Appenheimer said. “We ran a smart race with outstanding effort. I was very pleased with the outcome and it was a great way for us to lead in to the conference meet in two weeks.”

Junior Joanna Johnson remains unbeaten after completing the 6k course in 21:03, which was 34 seconds faster than second-place finisher Laura Paulsen of John Hopkins University. However it was the nations No. 2 team John Hopkins who won the race with 62 points. The 13th ranked Case Western Reserve Spartans recorded 105 points to place second.

Oberlin's 128 total points was better than No. 16 College of New Jersey, who posted a seventh-place finish with 211 points. Coming into this week, the Yeowomen were ranked 26th in the latest USTFCCCA Poll.

Senior Cordelia Revells turned in a strong race by placing 18th overall with a mark of 22:18. Fellow senior Clara Shaw also put it all together to end 26th with a time of 22:37, while rookie Sara Terashima ended just a second back at 22:38 to finish 27th.

Junior Julie Beebe stopped the clock at 23:23, placing 56th overall. Sophomore Nina Cole (23:56/59th) and first-year Amanda Gracia (23:57/60th) complete the group of point scorers for the Yeowomen.

First-year Eric Line led the Yeomen to a 13th place finish in the 28-team field with 380 points. Line, a native of Dover, Delaware, finished 39th overall with a time of 26:05 in the 8K run.

Sophomore Ben Schild was Oberlin's second finisher at 26:24, earning him 61st overall. Classmate Stephen Williams checked in just eight seconds back at 26:32 to end in 72nd place.

Juniors Justin Warner (26:49/93rd) and Sean Dunne (27:15/115th) were the Yeomen's fourth and fifth place finishers, respectively.

Sophomores David Cogswell and Derek Lange recorded an identical time of 27:21 to round out the Oberlin scoring line-up.

No. 18 New York University won the race with 53 points, upending No. 5 Allegheny who was second with 56 points.

Oberlin has next week off to prepare for the NCAC Championship Meet on October 31.
