Volleyball Earns a Split on Homecoming

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College Yeowomen outlasted Denison University Big Red in a rollercoaster match 3-1 (25-15, 17-25, 25-17, 25-23) this afternoon.

Oberlin was able to win the first set, but Dension came back with more momentum and took the second set from Oberlin. After many lead changes in the final two games, Oberlin was able to pull ahead and come out on top with help form seniors Rita Kaplon, who had 42 assists, and Tammela Platt, who contributed 27 digs in the game.

“We were able to learn for the match against Wooster, and the girls stepped up in crucial moments to win this game,” commented Head Coach Carey Cavangaugh.

Sophomore Anna Frackman added 16 digs, along with seven kills and rookie Chinwe Okona also added 15 digs of her own, which contributed to a team totally of 77. First-Year Laura Jessee lead the team with 14 kills, while fellow classmate Rosie Eck had six.

The Yeowomen took a break to regroup and prepare for their 7pm match against Wittenberg University Tigers.

Unfortunately, the Yeowomen fell to the perennial power in straight sets (23-25, 14-25, 17-25). Jessee led the Yeowomen with kills and Senior Tammela Platt recorded a team-high 19 digs.

Oberlin will look to bounce back when then they host Ohio Wesleyan on October 14th.
