Men’s Soccer Ends Homecoming with a Win

Wyatt Hayman's first goal of the year gave OC its first NCAC win of the season.

Oberlin, Ohio –
A loose ball in front of the net that hit off Wyatt Hayman and then off a Wittenberg defender found its way into the goal and that was all the Oberlin College men's soccer team needed to cap off Homecoming with a 1-0 win over the Tigers on Saturday night at Fred Shults Field.

“This was huge,” Head Coach Blake New said. “We had to have this one tonight and I am glad we were able to earn the win. When you fight hard and play smart soccer, good breaks like that tend to happen.”

The Yeomen controlled the run of play for the majority of the night as they fired off 20 shots compared to just nine for the Tigers. However, just four Oberlin's shots were on goal as Wittenberg keeper Michael Lambeck turned away the other Oberlin scoring opportunities with three acrobatic saves.

Joshua Brancazio and Skyler Dum led Oberlin (6-3-2, 1-1-1 NCAC) with four shots each.

The Yeomen's dominance of the match was also evident in 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Zach Lipshultz played all 90 minutes in the cage and made three saves – including a diving stop off the foot Stefan Latham in the 87th minute to preserve the win.

Oberlin, who is undefeated at home this season at 5-0, welcomes national power Ohio Wesleyan to town for a 7 p.m. tilt on Wednesday night.
