Final Results
January 16 – It was a great opening meet for the Oberlin track and field teams on Friday night at the John W. Heisman Field House as they recorded multiple victories and personal best times.
Sophomore
Amanda Miller moved into second all-time with a mark of 1:20.69 in the 500 meter dash.
(Note: It was originally reported that this was a school record, but that is incorrect. Anna Chernin '08 has the school record of 1:20.24.)
“It was a great opening meet,” director of track and field
Ray Appenheimer said. “We had many personal-best performances and to see that this early in the season is definitely a good sign of things to come as the season moves forward.”
Miller also ran the opening leg of the winning 4x400 relay team. She was followed by
Nicky Ouellet,
Ali Gemma and
Madeline Schultz - finishing in 4:15.92.
Ouellet also took top honors in the 1000 meter run after touching the tape in 3:08.65.
Sophomore
Joanna Johnson rounded out the winning for the Yeowomen - covering one mile in 5:30.13 to win the event.
On the men's side, senior
Conor Doss blistered the field in the 3000 meter with a mark of 9:49.79. He later returned to win the mile in 4:28.52.
Fellow senior
Ryan King registered a time of 2:38.73 in the 1000 meter run to earn the win.
In the 500 meter dash,
Seth Wimberly flew around the track in 1:09.41 to take top honors.
Josh Gallager's 44-04 shot put heave was also good for first place.
Oberlin returns to action on January 24 at the Case Western Reserve Spartan Invitational.
