Yeomen drop a Double Overtime Thriller at St. Thomas

Luke Hoffman scored Oberlin's first goal on Sunday.

Box Score

September 7 –
The St. Thomas Tommies needed two overtimes to hand the Oberlin College men's soccer team its first blemish of the season as they came away with a 3-2 win over the Yeomen on Sunday afternoon.

It appeared that the Yeomen were going to escape with a tie, but a free kick by the Tommies' resulted in Andy Gikling's 15-foot goal with just 90 seconds left in the second overtime to drop Oberlin's record to 4-1 on the year.

The Yeomen fell behind 2-0, but crawled their way back to force the extra sessions. Senior Luke Hoffman got Oberlin on the board in the 30th minute and Evan Atwell netted his second goal of the season at the 87:59 mark to extend the game.

Both overtime periods were played very closely, but unfortunately the Yeomen couldn't hold off the last ditch effort by St. Thomas.

Oberlin looks to bounce back on Wednesday when it plays host to local rival Baldwin-Wallace at 7 p.m.
