September 24 - Lois Immerman's header in double overtime lifted the Oberlin College women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Bluffton on Wednesday afternoon.
“It was good to get back on the winning track,” head coach Kristen Hayden said. “The match had a lot of momentum swings, but I was proud of the way we fought to come away with a win.”
The Yeowomen trailed 1-0 at the half, but Immerman notched her first of two goals to tie the game at 1-1 shortly into the second session. Oberlin then grabbed a 2-1 edge as
Amelia Jarvinen converted an assist from
Joelle Sesar into her first goal of the season.
The Beavers responded by cashing in a free kick opportunity before the second half horn to force the extra frames.
No team was able to gain substantial possession in the first OT, forcing Immerman's game-ending heroics. On the play she took a cross from
Ariel Kahrl and pushed it past the Bluffton keeper for her third goal of the season.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Oberlin and improved its record to 3-4-1 on the year.
Oberlin had its chances to win in regulation as it fired off a season-high 34 shots - including 18 on goal, but many attempts by were directed right at Beavers goalie Katy Wisby as she totaled 15 saves in the game.
Sarah Grabinski controlled the net during regulation and tallied six saves before giving way to
Christie Zelnik in the overtime periods.
Oberlin returns to action on October 1 at Fredonia with the opening-touch set for 7 p.m.
