Oberlin Outplayed by Olivet

Box Score

Sept. 20 - The Oberlin Women's Soccer team ran into a tough test on Homecoming Saturday at Fred Shults Field, as they were bested by the Olivet College Comets 4-0 in non-conference action.

The Comets jumped on the Yeowomen early, scoring twice in the first ten minutes of action to give Olivet a 2-0 advantage. Despite having several runs back at the Comets defense, the Yeowomen seemed to lose control of possession one pass too early on each occasion. Olivet was able to score again in the 26th minute on a breakaway to give them a commanding 3-0 lead.

That lead would hold as neither team was able to score for the last twenty minutes of the first half.

The second half was very evenly played with only one advantage falling the visitors way; that being the lone second half goal with 20:31 remaining. The Yeowomen did out shoot the Comets in the second half 6-4 led by first year defender Lori Sako who put both of her attempts on net. Head Coach Kristen Hayden commented, "I was pleased with some of the things we did in the second half, but as conference play approaches we just cannot let teams jump out on us the way Olivet was able to do today. And had we played the first 45 [minutes] like we played the second 45 [minutes] it could have been a different game."

This was the last home non-conference tilt for the Yeowomen who have two more games in order to tune up for the NCAC conference season, which begins October 4, 2008. Oberlin will be in action this Wednesday, September 24 as they travel to Bluffton University for a 4 pm game.
