September 2 – For the second straight game, the Oberlin College men's soccer team was able to lay claim to a 1-0 victory as they defeated Mount Union in their first road test of the season on Tuesday night.
After a slow first half for both teams, The Yeomen got on the board in the 56th minute off a direct kick by sophomore defensemen
Drew Williamson. Williamson's boot came from 22 yards out and actually grazed off the head of a Purple Raider defender before it found its way into the back of the net.
“We played pretty well and were able to control the game throughout,” head coach
Blake New said. “This is a tough place to play and I think our guys handled the adverse conditions very well.”
Ten minutes after their lone goal, it appeared Oberlin was going to add an insurance tally as first-year
Oliver Miller-Farrell deposited what looked to be his first collegiate goal, but it was waived off as the line judge said he was offsides.
The Yeomen out shot the Purples Raiders 9-7 and had a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Zach Lipshultz recorded three saves in 90 minutes of work.
OC returns to action on Friday night with a 7 p.m. tilt at Macalaster.
