Box Score
September 18 – In their first home match under the lights at Fred Shults Field, the Oberlin College women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 3-2 decision to the visiting John Carroll University Blue Streaks on Thursday night.
Despite being out-shot 20-9 in the game, Oberlin nearly escaped with a win as they held a 2-1 lead at the break, but two second-half goals by the Blue Streaks proved to be difference.
After falling behind 1-0 just seven minutes in, sophomore
Veronica Fusco got the Yeowomen on the board in the 35th minute as she took a deep pass from
Joelle Sesar and beat the JCU keeper in a one-on-one situation.
Just five minutes later, Fusco pushed Oberlin out front, 2-1, as she netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season and second of the game. On the play she stole the ball from a Blue Streak defender in front of the box and fired off a quick shot into the top left corner of the goal.
Unfortunately, the Oberlin lead was short-lived as John Carroll tied things at 2-2 just two minutes into the second session, before Brynn McNichols cashed in the game winner in the 79th minute.
Junior
Sarah Grabinski had a strong night in goal, tallying a season-high 11 saves over 90 minutes of work.
The Yeowomen will look to rebound on Saturday as they play host to Olivet College at noon as part of the athletics department homecoming weekend.
