The Oberlin College men's soccer team scored once in each half and that was all they needed as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over Kalamazoo College on Tuesday afternoon at Fred Shults Field. The win lifted Oberlin to 6-2 on the year and marked their fourth shutout of the season.

“We are playing some good soccer right now,” head coach Blake New said. “We were able to control the ball for the majority of the game and it was good to see us convert a few of the opportunities we had.”

After a slow start to the first half, the Yeomen broke through in the 29th minute with a perfectly executed set piece that was finished off by Wyatt Hayman to earn his first collegiate goal. The free kick was sent into the box by Drew Williamson and was headed by Luke Hoffman to the streaking Hayman.

It didn't take nearly as long for the Yeomen to get on the board in the second half as Evan Atwell headed in a cross from Oliver Miller-Farrell just 45 seconds into the frame.

Oberlin had it chances to cash in early as Miller-Farrell's shot from the top of the box in the 26th minute hit square off the right post to deny the goal. Atwell nearly added his second goal of the game in the 48th minute, but was turned away on a diving save by the Kalamazoo keeper. Hoffman's try in the 78th minute also drew iron before it was eventually cleared out by the Hornets' defense.

Oberlin dominated the game statistically with a 15-9 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. The Yeomen also took nine corner kicks compared to just one for the Hornets.

The Yeomen will look to stay hot on the road when they travel to Muskingum for a 2 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
