September 13 – A wet terrain and a continue flow of rain did not stop the No. 25 Oberlin College women's cross country team as they placed three runners in the top five en route to winning the GLCA meet on Saturday at their newly developed course.
Sophomore
Joanna Johnson won her second race in as many tries by completing the 5k course in 17:51 – 38 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Senior
Nicky Ouellet checked in 1:05 behind Johnson at 18:56 to end in third place, while first-year
Christine Moore completed the trio in the top five with a time of 19:25 to finish in fifth place.
As a team the Yeowomen totaled 35 points, 19 points better than Hope College (54), which finished second. All five Oberlin placers ended within the first 14 spots, with their top-nine competing athletes finishing within the top 25 in the 105 runner field.
Junior
Clara Shaw was Oberlin's fourth finisher after ending 12th overall in a time of 19:45. Fellow junior
Cordelia Revells checked in eight seconds back of Shaw (19:53) to earn a 14th-place finish.
The men's team also ran a fine race with four runners finishing in the top 15 en route to a third-place finish in the eight-team field with 74 points.
Senior
Everett Schlawin paced the Yeomen in 26:43 to finish in sixth overall. Junior
Justin Warner (26:52) and senior
Ryan King (26:54) placed 11th and 12th respectively for the Yeomen.
Senior
Conor Doss completed the foursome in the top 15 as he completed the 8k trek in 27:04. First-year
Stephen Williams was Oberlin's final placer in a time of 27:34.74 to end in 30th overall.
Hope College took the team title for the men with 57 points, beating out fellow NCAC member Denison by two points. Freshman Dee Salukombo of Denison was the individual winner with a time of 26:04.
The Yeomen and Yeowomen return to action on September 27 at the Otterbein Pre-Regionals.
