November 1 -- Oberlin College hosted the first dual meet of the year at Carr Pool this afternoon. Though falling to nationally-ranked Denison 161-116 (women) and 160–101 (men), the swimmers and divers turned in some great early season performances.

Continuing her winning ways from her first year, sophomore sensation Sara Kadi (Oakland, Calif) had some fast swims for the Yeowomen. She finished first in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:59.21. Her time of 59.10 was good enough for her second win of the day in 100-yard butterfly.

Sophomore diver Christine Martin (Jamacia Plain, Mass.) won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards with solid early season scores of 188.70 and 202.65, respectively. The only other event winner of the day for the Yeowomen was junior sprinter Shannon Gallagher (Mystic, Conn.). She touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.85.

For the Yeomen, senior Scott McInerney (Randolph, N.J.) led the way with two individual event wins. He captured first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.73) and swam 54.43 to finish first in the 100-yard butterfly. In 100-yard breaststroke, newcomer Jebran Haddad (Beirut, Lebanon) led the entire way for the first collegiate victory of his career. He touched the wall first with a solid time of 1:01.26. Two other standout Yeomen swimmers were sophomore Jon Vimr (Savoy, Ill.) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.34) and first year Nick Lashway (Leeds, Mass.) in the 100-yard backstroke (54.20).

The Oberlin swimmers and divers will return to action at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14 at Case Western Reserve University.
