Box Score
Nov. 1 – It took nearly the entire 110 minutes of regulation and two overtimes, but the visiting Yeomen outlasted the Little Giants as
Wyatt Hayman's goal in the 108th minute proved to be golden as Oberlin held on to a 3-2 victory.
Oberlin was able to erase their zero off the scoreboard first as they jumped out to an early lead on a goal from sophomore forward
Evan Atwell. Atwell scored in the 12th minute on a ball from junior
Dan Jaffe. The Yeomen were able to play with the lead until Austin Jennings of Wabash scored an unassisted goal with the first half winding down.
Answering the Yeomen's fast first half start, Wabash scored equally fast to take a 2-1 lead in the first ten minutes of the second frame. Having to play from behind Oberlin began increasing the pressure on the Wabash defense hoping that they would find a seam.
In the 75th minute the Yeomen were able to strike back and even the score. Two of the most productive and consistent offensive players for Oberlin,
Skyler Dum and
Michael Mullaley, connected again and Dum was able to find the back of the net.
With the score tied 2-2, Wabash and Oberlin spent the next fifteen minutes keeping the fans on the edge of their seats as regulation ended in a draw.
In the first overtime Oberlin fired two shots, but more importantly were able to successfully defend two Little Giants' corner kicks. It was not until the end of the second overtime the Hayman was able to seal the deal for the Yeomen.
With the win Oberlin will finish the season above .500 with a record of 9-8-2. Today's victory over Wabash was the first road conference win of the season and completed the NCAC Indiana sweep for OC. Head Coach
Blake New said, “This is a fitting end to the year. To win the way we did, coming back from a deficit on the road says a lot about the character of our squad. We are going to miss our seniors, but I think we can really build off the way we finished this season.”
Oberlin finished the year 2-0-2 in their last four games, all NCAC tussles, three of which came on the road.
