Oct. 25 – After playing several solid games against very good conference opponents, the Oberlin Women's soccer team stepped out of league play to travel into Cleveland to face regional rival Case Western this afternoon. Despite competing hard, the Spartan's defeated the Yeowomen 3-0.
The home Spartans scored on an unassisted goal just eleven minutes into the contest and never really looked back. Oberlin battled hard to keep the game 1-0 at the end of the first period, but Case would add two more in the second frame to secure the win.
Oberlin was outshot 18-6 on the game “was never really able to create any good scoring chances”, according to Head Coach Kristen Hayden.
The lone bright spot for the Yeowomen was the play in net by junior goalkeeper
Christie Zelnik. Playing the entire 90 minutes, Zelnik stopped six Spartan shots and made several other nice defensive plays.
The Yeowomen have just two games left in the season and will look to grab their next win at Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 pm.
