Box Score
Oct. 11 - In Gambier, Ohio, the Kenyon College women's soccer team scored just 1:15 into the game and that's all they would need as they beat Oberlin 1-0.
After a quick turnover on the opening possession, KC brought the ball down field and won an early corner kick. The subsequent kick sailed into the box where a KC striker placed the ball off her head and passed Oberlin goalie
Sarah Grabinski.
The two teams both fighting for their first conference win of the season played the next 88 minutes without scoring. Head Coach Kristen Hayden said, "The goal was really a nice play and placed perfectly by Sarah. We just have to avoid going on the road and giving a home team that kind of confidence two minutes into the game...and that got us today."
Kenyon was able to build off their early momentum, and although the Yeowomen defense shut them down, in part due to a strong game in net by Grabinski, Oberlin was out shot in the contest 27-6. The aggressive play from the home team also yielded a clear advantage in corner kicks at 7-1.
Lois Immerman and
Lori Sako led Oberlin with two shots each but Oberlin was faced to play a defensive game for much of the contest, and failed to put together any outstanding scoring opportunities. The Yeowomen will have another shot at their first NCAC win on Tuesday, October 14 as they travel to Allegheny for a 4:00 pm tussle.
