A standout swimmer for legendary Hall of Fame coach Dick Michaels, Young Kim was a formidable foe to his rivals across the Ohio Athletic Conference and North Coast Athletic Conference throughout his career. By the time he graduated, Kim was the holder of six individual team records and participated on two record-setting relay teams.

Kim qualified for the NCAA Championships for all four years of his career and as a senior was named to the All-American team in the 400-yard individual medley. An all-strokes swimmer, his name still appears five times in the Oberlin all-time top ten swims list.  He was a senior co-captain for the Yeomen and a three-time team MVP.

Kim has worked as a non-profit executive director and activist since graduating from Oberlin, and has earned several community awards and distinctions including the Wisconsin Hunger Hero Award, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation Doug Jansson Leadership Award, the Outpost Natural Foods' Owner of the Year, and was a Fellow at the Center for Whole Communities.
