Bill "Friar" Tuck, a member of the class of 1945, was a three-sport athlete who earned six varsity letters-three in basketball, two in baseball and one in football. He played first base on the baseball team, right halfback on the football team and forward on the basketball team. During his sophomore season, he led the Yeomen in scoring with 156 points and was elected team captain for the following year. As a junior, after returning from military service, he recorded a season team-best 22 points against Denison University, reached double figures in scoring nine times, and finished second on the team with 163 points. Tuck was elected team captain for his senior season. A member of the Class of '45, he enlisted and served two and one half years in the Army, seeing action in France, Luxembourg and Germany during World War II, and received his B.A. in 1947.
