Vince Rosenthal, a native of Detroit, Michigan, Rosenthal entered Oberlin in the fall of 1942. After his first semester he entered military service, but returned to Oberlin in 1946 and graduated in 1949 with a degree in history. Rosenthal earned four letters in baseball and was a member of the varsity basketball and football teams. Freshman were made eligible for varsity teams in 1942 and Rosenthal was one of nine first-year students selected to play on the varsity football team. He made the traveling squad in his first season with the Yeomen as an offensive center. He also played football in 1946 and 1947 and helped the Yeomen to a record of 12-7-3 in three seasons. After returning from military service, Rosenthal played four seasons with the baseball team and was elected captain during his senior year. A pitcher, his best season statistically was in 1948 when he compiled a 1.33 earned run average and held opposing hitters to a .186 batting average. Rosenthal also batted .222 as a junior. One of his more memorable outings was in 1946 when he was the starting pitcher against the University of Toledo in the longest game in Oberlin history. He pitched six innings in the contest which Oberlin eventually won 6-5 after 18 innings. After leaving Oberlin Rosenthal went to work for Euclid Road Machinery Company. He married Mary Owen, Class of '50, and retired to Oberlin in 1987. Nine of Rosenthal's baseball and football teammates have been inducted into the Heisman Club Hall of Fame.
